Fragment 19

Take to thee Jesus the son of Nun. For it was right...

Take to thee Jesus the son of Nun.1 For2 it was right that Moses should bring forth the people out of Egypt, but that Jesus should bring them into their inheritance, and that Moses as the Law, should receive rest, Jesus as the word and the unlying type of the Hypostatic Word should speak to the people; and that Moses should give manna as food to the fathers,3 but Jesus the new, even now a first-fruit of life, a type of the Body of Christ, as saith the Scripture too, that then the Lord’s manna ceased,4 after the people had eaten corn from the land.
