Fragment 18

And1 this not idly, but in order that through the number of the ten men,2 he might be shewn to have Jesus with him as his helper.3 [As4 being not in accord with them and not choosing to communicate in what they idolatrously were doing they bring a charge against him, for Hierobaal is called the tribunal of Baal.]

  1. m Extant in the Leipzig Catena t. ii. col. 166.

  2. cf. supra p. 51.

  3. Judges 6:27.

  4. n This latter paragraph is extant in the Leipzig Catena, l. c., as a comment on the two following verses, and anonymous. It cannot be S. Irenæus’, for it is a mere common-place comment on the words. Massuet (i. 345) gives the former part only. The Leipzig Catena gives ἀ συ μ φώνου for the ἀ π ὸ συ μ φώνου in Mr. Harvey, which should apparently be in one word, ἀ ποσυ μ φώνου .
